1/3/02 - Check out this "A" CD review by Chris Powell.

1/2/02 - I am back from skiing in Canada and I hope that everybody had as good a holiday as I did. There are some new shows to report. The Grape Street Pub's website has added some new live streaming audio clips of the band at their site. One of the songs is a new track so check it out.

12/19/01 - Long time Q fan Pery Shusterman (we're talking Greenhouse days here folks) has published a show review over at phillymusic.com so be a good little sport and check it out.

12/10/01 - And now for the "Where Are They Now" portion of the show. Remember the benefit show the band played a few weeks ago? It was organized by one of their former drummers Darren Keith. Here is a link to an article about the show. The article details what Darren has been up to lately. Speaking of ex-drummers you can check out what Mike Leavy is up to at his new band website.

12/07/01 - A month sure passes quickly when you are a slave to the grind. As usual I have been collecting a few Q-goodies for you in my absence. Today I want to share with you the absolute best concert pictures of the band that I have seen to date. Professional photographer Christopher Dumas took them at the Jam on the River last Memorial Day. He was kind enough to share them with me so I will share them with you. Click here to view the pictures. Check out the last picture of Doug in what appears to be him executing a perfect artificial capo and making a "rock & roll" face. I of course have been practicing the same move, but alas I am performing it in front of my bathroom mirror while Doug is on stage in front of thousands of people. If you think that is pathetic, just know that I am listening to that new Pink song "Get the Party Started" right now, and yes I actually like it.

11/02/01 - Check out this record review.

11/01/01 - I added two more November show dates.

10/30/01 - Here is a link to some guy's online journal. His name is Sam Snyder and he seems to dig the Q.

10/29/01 - I updated the shows page with the band's latest show opening up for David in need of a weave Roth. Also check out this news item about Josh from Modern Drummer magazine. Way to go Josh, you are the first band member to get a write up in a print musician's magazine (at least to my knowledge).

10/26/01 - Here is a short review of the band when they opened up for the Cult back in July.

10/25/01 - I was saving this one till it was closer to Halloween. The fine folks over at Candelabra Productions (Philadelphia's very own Gothic and Industrial source) have a pretty neat website and webzine for your viewing. The link to the pictures I posted yesterday was from them. They also reviewed that show so you can check that out here. For a cover of their webzine with Ringler on it click here.

10/24/01 - Want to see some pictures of the band taken August 7, 2001 from the Grape Street Pub? Thought so.

10/23/01 - Yeah, I suck. I didn't make it to last Friday's show and I am not going to tonight's either. Somebody that I only know by his or her email name of "Chaty" was cool enough to send me the set list. Songs played were: Here & Gone, The Clone, Rock and Roll Funeral, Come & Get Me, Faraway, Nothing Left To Say, Bag of Tricks, Dime a Dozen, Sweet Potato, Hey You, Poison Arrow, Driving Nails, and Little Scene. Based on this set list I missed quite a show, especially since they played a few quasi-older songs. Someone over at the corporate board also posted a link to an album review they did. Check it out.

10/18/01 - Oh my, two days in a row. Check out this review from a Penn State student. He reviews the album as well as a show from last year at the Silo in Reading, PA where the band opened up for Fuel.

10/17/01 - I know, before you even say it, it's been awhile… Well I am back again. But don't worry I may have been taking some time off from authoring this site but I haven't been totally slack about gathering all sorts of Q goodies. Normally I put them all in one post but I might just spread them out to make it appear as though I am spending more time on this site. Firstly, I finally updated the shows page. I do want to address one thing. The boys are opening up for King's X this month and I am sure that it is going to be a great thrill for them to play with their idols. So I am listening to some King's X right now (Summerland to be exact) and it just occurred to me. What you might ask? Well unless you are a true music geek like myself you may want to stop reading right now because it is kind of boring. I just realized that both King's X and Isle of Q both drop guitar rhythm tracks during the guitar solo. It gives the song a "live" feel to it. The only other band that I know that did this was Van Halen. I always thought it was cool to do this and could never figure out why other bands didn't do the same. Yeah, I know you are saying "big deal" right now so check out this record review (about half way down the page) where somebody else makes yet another King's X comparison to the band.

8/06/01 - Here is a quick story… On Saturday night I was in a bar in St. Peter's Village, PA. For those of you not aware (and that should probably be all of you) St. Peter's Village is a historic industrial section in the Northern portion of Chester County. It's the sticks people. I mention this only because it is the last place one would expect to have an Isle of Q moment, dueling banjos maybe, but not Isle of Q. At nine o'clock this DJ sets up a Karaoki machine. This is normally my cue to leave. Don't get me started on Karaoki as I could rant for hours on the subject. However, my friend secretly took me here just so she could sing. If she told me about it I would never have shown up. Luckily the DJ couldn't get her song cued up in time. I say luckily because she had a microphone in her hand, some Merlot in her belly, and an attitude. She proceeded to berate and insult people in the audience (mostly me) while the DJ is furiously trying to cue up her song just so she will shut up. She gets cutoff by the bartender and then starts yelling at the bartender and gets thrown out. You may be wondering how one gets kicked out of a bar by nine o'clock, but we had been there since five, 'nuff said. Well, before she got kicked out I decided to leaf through the song selections in the Karaoki book. I start making fun of the pages and pages of country songs (we are in the sticks, remember?) when low and behold I get to the "I's". There before me is Isle of Q's Bag of Tricks. So if you are one of those Karaoki types or just plain want to live out those deep seeded Ringler fantasies you can go to a Karaoki bar and sing Bag of Tricks.

8/02/01 - File this one under the novelty section. Over at the Hollywood Stock Exchange you can buy shares of your favorite actors, movies, and music artists and watch their values rise or fall based on the success of their careers and personal life. Stocks soar with a number one film at the box office and plummet with a stay at the Betty Ford clinic. Well, the boys in Q have had their IPO if you will. Check out their listing here. Be prudent with your money. I blew all my money banking on a Corey Haim and Corey Feldman comeback. I think Isle of Q is a safer investment.

8/01/01 - Happy Birthday Lisa!

7/31/01 - I am not sure whether I posted this show review before or not so humor me. It is from a Dallas show back in February and you have to scroll down the page a bit.

7/20/01 - There has not really been anything new to post that has not already been posted on the boards lately, hence my reason for laying low. I do have a couple of new things today though. There is a real good album review here. There is another five star album review here. This one is funny because they used a picture of the band from their Greenhouse days. It contains quotes such as," Listen to it, that's an order. If you don't, I will see to it that you are permanently banned for lack of taste." And finally there is a record review from Chile I believe. It is in Spanish or Portuguese (I cannot remember which language they speak there). I didn't put it up for the sake of reading it. The only reason I put it up is because it says that the album was released by Sony. The band is signed to Universal in the States but apparently they have a Sony distribution deal in South America at least. I thought that was pretty cool. Maybe Sony is a division of Universal, you know, like Disney owns ABC, which owns ESPN, etc. Maybe not. Just a stupid piece of trivia that I focused on.

6/25/01 - Check out this European record review.

6/21/01 - Well, I am back for now. My trial finished Monday and the jury came back on Wednesday with the largest jury award ever in Lancaster County. $8.2 million! After a little celebrating I am trying to get back into the swing of all things Q. As usual I missed a great deal which I will try to incorporate into this site when the time permits. In the meantime here are a couple of new things for you. There are a few more show dates over at the corporate page which I am too lazy to include now so in the meantime check them out there. Additionally, there are some pictures of the band from their February 13, 2001 WYSP rock session gig at Ozone Studios here in Philadelphia. To view the pictures click here.

5/18/01 - I added some pictures to the second miscellaneous gallery for you to check out. I start a trial in Lancaster, PA on Monday which is scheduled to last for about four weeks. Unless it settles or the outcome is expedited I don't expect to be back for awhile. See ya.

5/4/01 - I sure have been apathetic lately. I have been around and have even had things to post but I just did not feel like it for some reason. I am finally motivated so there are lots of little things to put in the archives today.

Doug emailed me a few weeks ago about a write up in Hits Magazine that I am too lazy to retype here so go read it at Mike's site.

Speaking of publications that you can't read here, I also found an article by Andrew Kaufman from Music Connection magazine. The article is allegedly an interview with Dave and is called signing stories. If you do a search in the archived issue section you will find it. You cannot read it there but one may purchase a copy if so inclined.

I found a review of a band called Flybanger where the reviewer said they had "Isle of Q melodies". People always ask you to describe Isle of Q by comparing them to other bands. It is nice to see that other people are now using Isle of Q to describe their style of music.

There is a pretty well respected metal television show/website in Florida called Metal Masters that is selling videos of their shows. They are selling one that they did with Isle of Q from December 3, 2000. They only charge shipping and handling for the VHS tapes so maybe somebody out there might be interested in picking one up. You can order one by clicking here.

There is a news item from a San Antonio radio station that quotes Dave's inspiration for writing the lyrics to Bag of Tricks and Doug's witty remarks. Scroll down to the January 17 listing.

I found some pictures from the Eagle Blockparty in Dallas. Scroll down past the naked women, apparently there was a wet T-shirt contest going on, and you will see pictures of the band.

The shows page is updated with some new shows.

Isle of Q fan Tommy Deninis emailed me the other day asking if I wanted a mp3 of an acoustic radio performance of Bag of Tricks from 92.5 KGB in Binghamton, NY. I traded him some acoustic mp3s I have from the WZZO performance in Allentown. The track was recorded when the band was in town to play the Country Pines show. The radio station started playing the song during normal rotation and Tommy was able to get a copy for himself. He was nice enough to trade it with me so I will share it with you. If you want to get a copy for yourself you will not find it on Napster as Napster has effectively filtered out Isle of Q from its search engine. You can download a copy of it from my Yahoo! briefcase. You have to be a Yahoo! member first but here is the link. I would post it here but my webhost limits my upload file size to 500k. Enjoy.

4/13/01 - If you visit this site regularly you know that I do not get too caught up in the whole, "call the radio station and request X" thing. The scope of this website is to be more of an Isle of Q resource or archive if you will, than to be a promotion machine for the band. There are other sites and people out there that handle those duties. That being said, I was pretty excited to hear "Here and Gone" on WYSP the first time it was added. The second time I heard it Couzin Ed mentioned that it was an equest made by about eighty people so I know that Mike and the Corporate site are obviously doing their job waving the Q flag. Anyway, the shows page is updated due to the LA Pub cancellation. I am pretty disappointed because I have not seen them there in a long time and that was always my favorite place to catch them live. It always had that neighborhood bar vibe going for it. It was the anti-GSP. I also found a new record review from South Africa of all places. The link doesn't always work so be patient.

4/10/01 - Thanks to Doug, the shows page is now updated with all the gigs up to mid June. He also sent me the set list from last night's acoustic set at the GSP. I didn't go but perhaps Mike can comment on the following set list as he indicated that he might attend the gig. Songs included: Little Scene, Way Down, Hey You, Bookshop, Love is Love, Bag of Tricks and Faraway. New Q fans will probably recognize that Love is Love is a new song but Bookshop dates back to the band's Greenhouse days. A rare treat indeed for those in attendance last night. Hey You is also a late nineties track that didn't make the 2000 album.

4/9/01 - Well, after a week in Aspen and two in Detroit I am getting back into the fold a bit. After reading the boards and Mike's site it looks like I missed some good stuff. I need to take the time and update this site with all of the things I missed but in the meantime here is something new for you. I found two picture galleries of the band's recent show in Binghamton, NY for you to enjoy. Gallery 1. Gallery 2.

3/15/01 - Doug has been kind enough to send me some information lately. I am not always timely with my posts but here goes. As you have no doubt already seen there are pictures from the band's North Jersey show last week here. There is an interview with Beau here. Additionally the band was featured on a cable TV show a while back called Rock TV. The TYPE 14 guys taped it for me and I am in the process of getting it digitized and placed on the net for all to see. However if you want your own copy you can purchase it here. Just a couple of comments. As you all know there is a new corporate message board. It seems pretty cool but it leaves a little to be desired in the privacy department. I usually check all the Q sites multiple times throughout the day. I went to the corporate board and checked the "most logins" option and wouldn't you know it but I had been there the most. I had been there even more than Doug. I felt like such a loser. In fact I think I went to the board so many times that I caused it to crash, hence its unavailability for the past couple of days. Hey John, get off the board and get a life! And lastly, I will be missing the weekend gigs here in Philadelphia because I will be skiing in Aspen. I really wanted to check out the Panchos, I mean LA Pub gig but the lore of powder called me instead. After Aspen I will be in Detroit for business for awhile so again I must say, "see you in a few weeks".

3/6/01 - Want to see some pictures of the band performing at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster? Ok, then click here. Had enough? No? Then click here. (Warning, second one is a bit slow)

3/2/01 - I am back in the fold at least for a little while. I have a lot of catching up to do. I will comment on one event though. By now everybody knows about the equipment theft in Texas. As a guitar player myself I understand how devastating it can be to lose your gear. However I see this as a totally positive situation. Yes, you have to spend a lot more money. Yes that does suck. But at least you do not have to play those boring Gibson and Fender guitars anymore. I have two words for you. Jackson Guitars. 'Nuff said.

2/9/01 - The shows page is updated with the new shows listed at the corporate site. I get like no feedback on this site, but in the past two weeks alone I received maybe four email requests for the Bag of Tricks tab. Well, how could I say no? Here it is, enjoy. I have a trial that starts on Monday. See you in about two weeks.

2/6/01 - I am slowly getting pieces of information together about the band's upcoming tour. I added another Texas date to the shows page. Additionally, the Crocodile Rock show may indeed be just a rumor. The band has to fly out to Arizona on Friday and their equipment might be shipped ahead of them so they would have nothing to play with. That being said, I saw Enuff Znuff at Crocodile Rock and they only brought their guitars. They used TYPE 14's drums and amps for the show. Of course Enuff Znuff might be so broke that they don't own any equipment. Kiss the clown… (an EZN reference)

2/5/01 - The TYPE 14 guys told me about a new show in Allentown that Doug confirmed. Check out the shows page for that update as well as another show that the corporate site added. Doug also mentioned that the plans for a spring tour are just about complete. Check back for details. Well it is snowing like crazy here in Philadelphia today. I have to get out of here so that I can get up to the Poconos tonight for a few turns on the slopes.

2/2/01 - I found some pictures from one of the gigs in Florida this past Summer. The picture that they say is Josh is of somebody else. Note the picture to the right. One of the guys is holding a Yuengling Light (aka Vitamin Y). I didn't think you could get that stuff outside of the tri-state area. Maybe the band was smart and brought a few cases with them.

1/29/01 - Check out my review of last Friday's show. I also added two new album reviews. One is by Brian Hickey and the other is by Jonny Flint.

1/26/01 - The corporate site is listing two new shows which are reflected in my shows page.

1/18/01 - It appears as though IOQ will be participating in another online chat on Tuesday January 30, 2001 at 8:00 p.m. EST. It will be at twec.com. I could not discern whether it would be an audio/video chat or only a real time chat. Doug also announced that the band would be playing another radio-sponsored gig here in Philadelphia. Details are on the shows page. I added another album review and a show review from the band's September 4, 2000 show in Tallahassee, FL.

1/17/01 - I added a show review and some pictures of the Rock and Roll Expo acoustic show from November. I also added some pictures to the Yahoo! club. You need to be a Yahoo! member to look at the pictures but since there isn't much action over there I tried to get things rolling again.

1/16/01 - I added the tab for Hideaway.

1/12/01 - The corporate site is listing a new show in Arizona opening up for Slaughter. "Up all night, sleep all day…" Be careful guys, don't let Dana Strum rip you off. He is notorious for being a dick to other bands. If anything good happens let me know so I can tell it to metal-sludge.com.

1/11/01 - I found a new album review and a show review of the June 28, 2000 show at Crocodile Rock. Just a note about the Rock TV performance. The TYPE 14 guys say that even if you live in the Lehigh valley you have to have RCN cable in order to see the show. Apparently RCN cable has a very limited subscriber population so very few people will actually see it. They did mention that the show would air in New Jersey for RCN subscribers though. They are also working on getting me a copy of the show. No promises were made of course since none of the guys have RCN. If I do get a copy of it I will digitize it and post it on the net for all to see. So even if the TYPE 14 guys fall through perhaps somebody with RCN can come through with a copy for me and ultimately for all of you?

1/9/01 - I am back from Whistler and totally depressed that I am still not on the slopes but I have a show to look forward to at the end of the month. The shows page is updated with the posts I saw on the boards.

12/28/00 - The "Rock TV" schedule changed and Isle of Q is scheduled to appear either on January 18th or 19th, or maybe both days. Who knows? Unless something groundbreaking happens tomorrow I will see you all in a week, as I am off to go skiing in Whistler, British Columbia. Ha, ha.

12/27/00 - Nothing major today just two semi noteworthy items. One is an article on how the band as well as some other Philadelphia bands gets no respect from the local media. The other is a review that is rather flattering from a guy named David Keffer. I don't think he is affiliated with any publication, but I am sure he considers himself a writer in some capacity.

12/22/00 - Isle of Q will be on "Rock TV" on January 4, 2001. "Rock TV" airs on RCN Cable TV at 10:00 p.m. on Channel 4. There is supposed to be an interview with Ringler and perhaps some concert footage from their Crocodile Rock show. TYPE 14 is also reporting that they will be on "Rock TV" on January 4, 2001 even though the "Rock TV" website lists them as appearing on December 28. I think you have to live in the Lehigh valley in order to see this program. Perhaps somebody in the Allentown area could tape it for me?

12/21/00 - After a battle with insomnia and a lack of television viewing choices at 4:00 a.m. I finally got around to transcribing some more songs. I decided to tackle all the drop D songs on the album including The Clone, Harder To Ignore, Here and Gone and Sweet Potato. You can see the transcriptions over on the tablature page. Just a couple of performance notes… Doug tunes his guitar a half step below standard tuning (ala Van Halen) and then drops the E down to a D, or in his case a D Flat to achieve those heavy tones. I transcribed these songs using the CD player on my computer which was quite a chore. I like to normally transcribe a song using a cassette tape player. What I am trying to say is that if I didn't get the transcription on the first couple of passes I got frustrated and made up the rest. So take the solos for what they are, my interpretation of what he is playing. Additionally, there are lots of those "Doug" chords in there. "Doug" chords are those hanging open chords that he likes to play. Often times they are pushed back in the mix and hard to hear. They are also not in my limited metal repertoire. I did the best that I could. Enjoy.

12/20/00 - Pictures from the Sevendust show are up.

12/19/00 (part 2) - It did not take long to get back into the swing of things. I updated the shows page with an interesting show in January. Tickets may be hard to come by. Check the shows page for details.

12/19/00 - So John, where have you been? Actually, I have been at trial for the past month living through one of the greatest endurance tests of my life. Personal life, gone. Relaxation, forget it. Sleep, daydream about it. Fun, huh? Isle of Q, who? Work has been my existence for the past month. Well now that I have my senses back and I am trying to live in the real world again I thought that I better update this site. If you are coming here for updates today you are in the wrong place because you know more about happenings in Isle of Q land than I do. Mike has been dutifully updating his site with all things Q and I plan on incorporating his stuff here over the next week but certainly not calling it an update. Just an administrative note, Jennifer Schanze Walten from Sacramento, California was the winner of the video contest. She correctly answered "Little Scene." She also looks forward to the day when Isle of Q actually plays a show in Northern California, as she will surely be there. Way to go Jennifer. What is even more impressive is that she is a new fan of the band. The question was kind of a trick question in that the verse doesn't appear on the album. The verse in question has not been a part of "Little Scene" for the past few years. I figured that only an old time local fan would know the answer. Oh well, shows you what I know. Most people thought the answer was "The Clone." I am working on a few things for this week including four new tabs, a show review and some pictures. Stay tuned.
